관계대명사( relative pronoun)

앞에 있는 명사를 대신 받는 대명사의 역할을 하면서 두 문장을 연결해 주는 접속사의 역할을 한다.
관계대명사절은 기본적으로 형용사절이다.

관계대명사의 종류와 형태

주격 ( who / which + V + O )
선행사가 사람이면 who , 사물이면 which를 사용.

The woman who is reading a book is my sister.

The book which is on the table is mine.

목적격 ( whom / which + S + V )
선행사가 사람이면 whom , 사물이면 which를 사용.

The woman whom Tom is talking to is my sister.

The book which Tom is reading is mine.

소유격 ( whose + n + V + O )
선행사에 관계없이 whose 를 사용

The woman whose hair is red is my sister.

The book whose cover is blue is mine.

관계사 that ( = who / which / whom )
특수한 경우를 제외하고는 위의 관계대명사들은 that으로 대신 사용할 수 있다

The woman that is reading a book is my sister.

The book that Tom is reading is mine.
